2025 World Taekwondo Championships: A Closer Look

The 2025 World Taekwondo Championships are set to take place in Wuxi, China, marking the second occasion mainland China has hosted this prestigious event since Beijing in 2007.

Wuxi, already recognized as a hub for Taekwondo due to hosting the Grand Slam Champions Series, was selected over bids from Sofia, Bulgaria; Zagreb, Croatia; and Charlotte, USA.

In preparation for the championships, athletes worldwide are intensifying their training. Notably, the Marton twins, Luana and Viviana, from the Hankuk team in San Sebastián de los Reyes, Spain, have had remarkable achievements leading up to 2025. Luana clinched the World Champion title in 2023 before turning 18 and aims to defend her title in Wuxi. Viviana, after narrowly missing medals in 2023, secured an unexpected spot and won gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics, earning her the title of the best taekwondista of the year by the International Federation.

However, not all athletes have had smooth preparations. Paula García Boix from Xàtiva, Spain, suffered a significant injury, preventing her from competing in the World Championships in Pésaro, Italy. Her coach, Loles Ballester, emphasized prioritizing Paula's health, stating, "La salud es lo primero." Despite this setback, they plan to prepare for the upcoming European Championship in Azerbaijan and several World Cups.

As the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships approach, the global Taekwondo community eagerly anticipates witnessing top-tier performances and the crowning of new champions in Wuxi.
